What's the difference between SingaporeConnect and the Singapore Global Network?
SingaporeConnect (SGC, SGConnect) is a registered non-profit public benefit corporation in California, USA, pending IRS 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status (EIN: 37-2180560). We serve to help Singaporeans and friends staying in our San Francisco Bay Area to connect over social and professional events, from potlucks, to cultural and sports festivals, networking mixers and workshops, recreational activities and family-oriented gatherings. We have also partnered with other Singaporean-oriented clubs and associations within the US, including Austin, Boston, Des Moines, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Portland, Seattle, and New York City, to hold events.

Singapore Global Network (SGN) is a Singapore Government agency, part of the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore.  Singapore Global Network operates worldwide.

I see a mix of American and British English spelling used by SingaporeConnect. Why's that?
SingaporeConnect is a cross-cultural organisation that operates primarily in the US and bridges with Singapore extensively.

In Singapore, the use of British or UK English for spelling English words is standard and in common use. Singapore culture in our view readily takes in global influences, including American, Chinese, Indian, and more, and Singaporeans strive to adapt and be flexible in all parts of the world, while maintaining our own unique identity. A term Singaporeans sometimes use to describe this is the ability to "code-switch", to be able to switch accents, language, and formats as appropriate to the local context.

In the case for SingaporeConnect, we do the same, operating with this concept of a mix, bringing in aspects of Singapore culture where relevant, and fitting in with the American environment where appropriate. This may include having, for example, Singaporean food and entertainment at our events, and speaking at times in either Singapore-accented English, or even Singlish, a unique blend of English that includes many phrases from the diverse set of languages spoken in Singapore.

Where confusion or practicality would reign, we defer to operating with the US regional time and date format, the US currency, and of course, to be in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations specific to the locality of our operations and events.

For spelling words, we are fine with doing a mix, as in our view it does not introduce confusion, yet pays homage to our heritage, which is why you may see this mix in our communication and materials.
