Why is this new route unique?
What's unique about this route is the timing and connecting airport.
You may be familiar with options for a early afternoon departure (12 pm - 1.30 pm) out of SFO, a connection in Tokyo Narita at around 3 pm or Hong Kong at around 7 pm, then a departure 3 hours later to Singapore arriving 12.45 - 1.45 am the next day. On the return, an early 5.45 - 7 am departure out of Singapore with another 3 hour connection in Tokyo Narita or Hong Kong, and finally a morning arrival in SFO at 8.30 - 11 am.
This new route leaves at 7.15 pm out of SFO, connects in Tokyo-Haneda around midnight (with only a one hour transit), and arrives in Singapore at 6.35 am. It leaves Singapore with two options at 10.50 or 11.50 am, arriving Tokyo Haneda around 6.30-7.30 pm, with a 5-6 hour connection to a 1 am flight to SFO which arrives at 5.10 pm. The difference this flight may make to your schedule, is you can maintain most of a workday in the SF Bay Area before departing, arrive in Singapore at a start of a day, instead of late night, leave Singapore at a more pleasant late morning time, instead of waking up early morning, and have enough time on the Tokyo Haneda connection on the way back to get dinner in Tokyo, as Haneda is near to the city, instead of Narita. You'll also arrive SF in the evening, so you don't have to try stay awake all afternoon. Therefore, there may be some nice advantages to this flight if you want to keep most of your working day both in SF and Singapore available. If you like to stopover in Tokyo for a few days, this option can be added as well.
You may also note that the connecting flight between Singapore and Tokyo-Haneda is on United Airline's joint-venture partner in this routing, All Nippon Airways (ANA), a Japanese carrier. United's flight will be on a Boeing 777 aircraft, while ANA's flight will be on the new Boeing 787 aircraft. On ANA, you can enjoy Japanese hospitality and food whilst on United you can experience the friendliness of their diverse flight crew. We hope this new option makes it easier for you to make those trans-Pacific trips back to Singapore, and please do take advantage of the promotion if you can!
